About the role
This is a full-time (76 hours per fortnight) permanent position with South West Healthcare Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing Service in a regional area offering beautiful scenery, excellent schools, and a range of cultural activities with easy access to metropolitan centres. A tourist location, Warrnambool, Port Fairy and their surrounds offer unparalleled access to water sports including surfing, scuba diving, kayaking and fishing, as well as arts and music festivals that bring the area even more to life in the summer months.
The Consultant Psychiatrist will provide clinical leadership and governance to a multidisciplinary case-management team providing excellent psychiatric care for consumers with both high and low prevalence conditions. We offer an integrated service whereby you will work across community and inpatient services to provide seamless navigation of the consumer recovery journey. There is a high level of support from Consultant colleagues and other clinicians, with regular peer review and Grand Rounds. The expectation is that the Consultant Psychiatrist will be an active participant on the on-call roster and, where possible, the ECT roster. Prior experience in ECT is not required as training can be facilitated.

What you bring
- As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide medical and psychiatric assessment and care within the competencies expected of an Adult Psychiatrist and Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent.
- Passion for working to support adults with major mental illness or psychological challenges. You will enjoy working in collaboration with patients, families and as part of a wider MDT.
- You will have proven leadership capabilities, are proactive, organised and cognisant of evidence-based medicine.
- A knowledge of or a willingness to learn about Australian culture, including indigenous heritage, if not already working in Australia.
- The capacity and drive to teach and supervise, supporting the medical workforce - Registrars, junior medical officers and medical students.
- Ability and interest in developing and improving mental health services in the region. This might include quality improvement, audit and research. The Deakin University Clinical School is co-located on the Warrnambool campus.
