Position Details

An exciting opportunity exists for registered Building Practitioners and Architects to utilise their industry experience and knowledge to support a specialised Building Assessment team within the Dispute Resolution Division of BPC. The work location for this position is Melbourne CBD with hybrid work arrangements available. Reporting to one of two Lead Building Assessors, a Building Assessor attends sites and examines building work. Using phone-based report writing applications, Assessors prepare written reports setting out whether building works are defective and/or incomplete. Building Assessors will recommend whether any rectification action is required and provide further expert advice where there has been a contravention of the Building Act 1993.

 What we are looking for

  • Demonstrated domestic building experience including the interpretation of plans, specifications and other documentation which constitutes a domestic building contract for the purposes of assessing whether building work carried out is in accordance with the contract documentation and legislation and standards governing domestic building work
  • Understanding and knowledge of the Building Act 1993 and the associated regulations, Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995 and associated regulations, National Construction Code and associated Acts and Codes and the Guide to Standards and Tolerances.
  • You must also hold, or have lodged an application to obtain, registration as a registered building practitioner with the Building and Plumbing Commission under the Building Act 1993 or registration as an Architect under the Architects Act 1991.

About the BPC

The Building & Plumbing Commission (BPC) is Victoria's new regulator for building and plumbing.

It brings together the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), and the domestic building insurance function of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) into one organisation.

Key functions related to building and plumbing regulation will come together under one roof, including registration, inspection and compliance, practitioner discipline, dispute resolution, and domestic building insurance. These services will now part of the BPC and will be fully integrated over the next 12 months.
