Position Details

The Senior Building Inspector working in the Preventative Inspections team is responsible for undertaking building inspections and audits informed by operational intelligence to drive and ensure suitable levels of practitioner compliance with relevant building legislation, codes and Australian Standards. Producing high quality written communications for the purpose of monitoring and enforcement of industry and practitioner performance in meeting compliance obligations. The Senior Building Inspector is responsible for:

  • conducting site visits, inspections and audits of building work,
  • preparation of technical reports, direction to fix, enforcement, various correspondence and recommendations,
  • maintenance of case files and systems,
  • assessing non-compliances and complex building matters to determine a resolution
  • and liaising with and providing expert advice to a range of stakeholders.

 

In addition, the Senior Building Inspector plays a role in mentoring other team members, providing development, expert technical building advice, recommendations, and coaching to support internal and external stakeholders.

 What we are looking for

  • Demonstrated extensive experience in conducting site inspections and audits in a regulatory environment on all Classes of commercial and domestic buildings.
  • Advanced understanding of the Building and Plumbing Commission Regulatory Framework contained in the Building Act 1993, Building Regulations 2018, National Construction Code (Volume One and Two) and relevant Australian standards and codes
  • Experience in producing high quality, detailed reports and experience in delivering clear and decisive written and verbal communication in order to achieve positive results.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify opportunities for generating workplace innovation, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and taking responsibility for initiating outcomes
  • Strong conceptual and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to interpret and apply legislation and technical matters to analyse complex issues, identify appropriate courses of action and make sound decisions.
  • Current Victorian registration as a Building Inspector (unlimited) and current Victorian driver's licence.

About the BPC

The Building & Plumbing Commission (BPC) is Victoria's new regulator for building and plumbing.

It brings together the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), and the domestic building insurance function of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) into one organisation.

Key functions related to building and plumbing regulation will come together under one roof, including registration, inspection and compliance, practitioner discipline, dispute resolution, and domestic building insurance. These services will now part of the BPC and will be fully integrated over the next 12 months.
