About the role
At South West Healthcare (SWH), our Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) model offers a unique opportunity for passionate midwives to provide continuity of care to women and their families throughout the pregnancy, birth, and postnatal journey.
As an MGP case load midwife, you will be the nominated care coordinator, responsible and accountable for delivering high-quality, woman-centred maternity care. Working within a supportive multidisciplinary team, you'll collaborate closely with other MGP midwives and the broader SWH Maternity Services team to ensure safe, evidence-based care aligned with national standards and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide continuity of midwifery care across the full maternity continuum as the primary midwife for your case load of patients.
- Practice in accordance with ANMC National Competency Standards, Code of Ethics, and NHMRC Collaborative Maternity Care Guidelines.
- Work within your scope of practice, following SWH Maternity Care Pathways and national consultation and referral guidelines.
- Promote and support clinical effectiveness and best practice in all aspects of care.
- Participate in an on-call roster proportional to EFT, as outlined in the MGP Industrial Framework.
- Maintain professional boundaries and accountability for individual practice.
- Contribute to service improvement initiatives and support internal stakeholders with high-quality, responsive care.
This role is ideal for midwives who are passionate about continuity of care, autonomy in practice, and building meaningful relationships with women and families during one of life's most significant experiences.
Position overview
- Employment Type:
2 x Part time (56 hours per fortnight), ongoing positions
2 x Part time (56 hours per fortnight), fixed term for 24 months from commencement
- Location: Warrnambool Campus
- Classification: Registered Nurse Midwife Grade 2 or above
- Salary Range: $83,803.20- $103,152.40 pro rata, plus superannuation + 32% commuted loading

- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Registered Midwife
- Commitment to woman-centred inter collaborative care
- Commitment to develop or already possess clinical skills relevant for autonomous practice
- Self-motivated with a high level of communication, organisational and time management skills
- Basic knowledge of patient management and information systems
- Commitment to developing clinical leadership in contemporary midwifery practice
- Current Victorian Driver's Licence
