This is a Fixed Term Position until 30 June 2028.
The Senior Information Policy Adviser will implement, manage and provide relevant advice regarding policy for the Mental Health and Wellbeing Consumer Management System (MHWCMS).
The role will undertake high-quality research and analysis of policy development and projects that support the department's reforms in respect of Recommendation 62 of the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System (RCVMHS).
The Senior Information Policy Officer will conduct stakeholder engagement, ensuring optimal collaboration with subject matter experts, and effective communication of policy objectives. Stakeholders will be internal to digital health as well as a range of external stakeholders including the Mental Health and Wellbeing Division and health sector representatives from health services and / or Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals.

The Department of Health is seeking a highly capable Senior Information Policy Advisor to support the implementation of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Client Management System. This role will play a key part in developing, aligning, and advising on information policy to ensure the system operates within best-practice governance, legislative, and ethical frameworks.
You will be responsible for shaping and advising on policies that guide the use, access, and protection of sensitive client information. Drawing on your strong written and verbal communication skills, you will produce high-quality reports, guidance documents, and briefs that are clear, accurate, and tailored to diverse audiences. You'll also lead and contribute to complex discussions on policy matters, adapting your communication style to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
With well-developed planning and organisational skills, you will manage competing priorities, anticipate barriers, and implement practical solutions to support policy delivery. A sound understanding of the broader information governance landscape and public policy context will be essential, along with the ability to translate complex issues into actionable recommendations.
Success in this role requires the ability to foster trusted relationships across internal and external stakeholders. You will identify shared priorities, respond to differing needs, and collaborate to develop innovative, fit-for-purpose policy outcomes.

Mandatory
- Knowledge of health informatics at least at a basic level is essential.
- Significant experience of having written professional grade documents is essential
Desirable

A strong understanding of the Victorian health system and specifically within the mental health context is highly desirable.

Experience of doing this in the context of creation of organisational policy is highly desirable.

Tertiary qualification in a field relating to health would be desirable.

A health informatics qualification / professional membership would be desirable.
- Demonstrable qualification within project management would be desirable.
