About Us
Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission. Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the ‘Courts Group'.
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is the first level of the Victorian court system and is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria. It has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 locations, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the Role
The Family Violence Respondent Practitioner plays a key role in the Magistrates' Courts response to family violence, working within a specialist team to enhance safety and accountability. The role involves direct engagement with respondents, collaboration with court and community services, and contribution to systemic improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments and refer respondents to support services and behaviour change programs
- Provide information to Magistrates about respondent needs and service availability
- Explain family violence concepts and court procedures to respondents and stakeholders
- Maintain accurate and confidential records, ensuring proper information sharing
- Represent the Court in meetings with internal and external stakeholders
- Prepare reports and update case management systems
- Travel to other courts and support satellite locations as needed
- Deliver education sessions to internal and external services
- Support continuous improvement of the Court's family violence response

About You
- Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or related fields is highly desirable
- Strong experience working with family violence perpetrators
- Experienced in conducting MARAM-aligned risk assessments and safety planning
- Strong understanding of factors that increase family violence risk (e.g. housing, legal, financial, AOD, mental health, cognitive impairment)
- Culturally sensitive and aware of intersectionality when supporting Aboriginal, CALD, LGBTIQ+ and other minority communities
