The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Custodial Technology Support Officer to provide a critical role at Barwon Prisons Precinct.
About the Business Unit
Corrections Victoria (CV) is responsible for the direction, management and operation of Victoria's prison system and Post Sentence Scheme. As a service agency within the Department of Justice and Community Safety, CV develops and implements operational policies, programs and services that ensure the safe and secure containment of prisoners, and that seek to rehabilitate them by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.
The Digital Operations Unit (DOU) provides a strategic focus and drives innovation, enhances governance and ensures continuous improvement as it relates to in cell technology at Corrections Victoria. DOU leads identification and prioritisation according to system needs and assists Technology Solutions and Digital Security (TSDS) in the development and implementation of new technologies that enhance operational efficiency, security and opportunities for rehabilitation and reintegration for people in custody.
The DOU works with location staff and prison intelligence units to proactively identify and address potential risks through robust oversight and regular audits to ensure compliance and operational integrity. The DOU establishes clear standards, policies, and performance benchmarks, regularly reviewing these to ensure accountability, and consistent evaluation of effectiveness and system impacts.
About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Projects Officer, Policy and Strategy, the role is responsible for overseeing legal-related aspects of Connect. This includes managing the governance of Connect Legal In-Cell (CLIC[LC1] [AF2] ) devices, liaising with legal organisations, and ensuring prisoner access to legal materials is upheld in accordance with policy and human rights obligations. The role also leads the development of legal access initiatives, contributes to policy and procedural updates, and supports Advanced Users and site staff in navigating Connect.
This position will be required to work on site at the Barwon Prisons Precinct as well as 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne on a regular basis, with requirements to also support other Corrections Victoria locations as required. Flexible work arrangements are available in accordance with DJCS policy.
Some of your duties will include:
- Work with staff, people in custody and other services providers in the delivery of an integrated, whole of justice approach to reduce re-offending
- Possess expert knowledge of the legal portfolio, such as access to legal materials and legal privilege, within prisons
- Use Windows and Microsoft Suite, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and Google Chrome to a high degree to support and deliver projects
- Understand the functionalities of Connect to provide support to service users including staff and people in custody on desktops, laptops, tablets and other devices
- Provide support to Senior Projects Officers as required, including in drafting and developing high-level correspondence and communications
- Support the team in provisioning and supporting a wide range of end-user computing hardware, including but not limited to laptops, monitors, tablets, and meeting room technology.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated commitment to working with staff, prisoners, and other service providers in the delivery of an integrated, whole of justice approach to reducing re-offending.
- Demonstrated experience in providing support in an IT environment with sound troubleshooting skills
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to express opinions, information, and key points clearly and concisely via effective verbal and written communication
- Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities with the ability to meet deadlines while working in pressured situations
- Good understanding of legal privilege and the legal industry, particularly as to how it relates to people in custody and their access to legal services, representatives and materials
- Able to work in accordance with legislation and policy
- SharePoint management experience.
