About the role:
This position is a Fixed-Term, Full-time role from 6 January 2025 to 30 June 2027.
The Finance Analyst and Coordinator role is responsible for providing trusted executive support to the Director, Health Service Financial Performance as well as flexibly taking on project support and delivery roles as needed based on branch and team requirements.
This is a varied role which works on all aspects of support to a busy team and branch with a particular focus on working to ensure that systems and processes are well designed and continuously improved. Attention to detail and strong communication skills are essential.
This role also assists in the preparation of health service financial information including coordinating reporting tasks and ad-hoc financial information requests from internal stakeholders. This role involves building and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure clear reporting and tight timelines are adhered to.

The Department of Health is seeking a skilled Finance Officer to provide high-quality financial support that contributes to effective decision-making and improved health outcomes for Victorians. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong financial and commercial acumen, with experience supporting financial operations in complex organisations. You will analyse income and expenditure drivers, trends and efficiency opportunities, and provide clear financial insights that shape operational performance. Your work will enable managers to make informed decisions based on accurate, timely and well-interpreted financial information.
You will bring strong conceptual and analytical ability, using policy and process guidance to navigate challenges and determine appropriate solutions. When required, you will seek advice while offering relevant information and ideas to support problem resolution. Your ability to reason through issues, understand underlying concepts and apply structured thinking will be vital in improving financial processes and outcomes.
A customer-focused approach is central to this role. You will respond promptly to the needs of internal stakeholders, communicate clearly on emerging issues and ensure inquiries or concerns are addressed efficiently. You will take responsibility for resolving problems and continuously look for opportunities to strengthen the quality and responsiveness of financial services.
Attention to detail is critical. You will identify gaps or inconsistencies in financial data, ensure information is logically presented and consider practical requirements when supporting planning and reporting. Your commitment to accuracy and high-quality outcomes will help maintain the integrity of the department's financial operations.

Mandatory
- A bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting / Commerce essential.
- Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia (ICAA) or Certified Practising Accountants of Australia (CPA) (or actively working towards membership) will be highly regarde
- An understanding and knowledge of the Victorian budget processes, health system funding, relevant departmental systems and environments.
- Exceptional data literacy and relationship building skills, with demonstrated capacity to work effectively within a politically sensitive context.
- Knowledge of the Victorian public hospital operations, and the impact of government funding, policy and reform on operations.
