About Us
Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.
Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the ‘Courts Group'.

The County Court of Victoria is established pursuant to the County Court Act 1958. It has original and appellate jurisdiction and is the principal trial court in the State of Victoria. The Court hears over 12,000 criminal, common law, and commercial cases each year. The County Court has unlimited monetary jurisdiction in common law and commercial matters. In its criminal jurisdiction, the Court hears all indictable offences except treason, murder, and related offences.
There are a total of 80 Judges of the Court and over 300 staff, including judicial support staff. The County Court regularly conducts circuit sittings at 12 circuit courts situated in major centres throughout regional Victoria.
The County Court is committed to continuous improvement in accordance with the International Framework for Court Excellence. The Court's vision is to be a leader in court excellence, delivering the highest standard of justice to the community and inspiring public confidence in the rule of law.
About the Role
The role of Practice Excellence Advisor is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of shaping how we deliver excellence across judicial services, and contribute to initiatives that support continuous improvement. The role will support the Manager, Learning and Development to ensure practice excellence materials are regularly reviewed, ensuring operating knowledge across judicial support staff remains relevant and current.
The role will influence key projects that impact the future direction of the Court and will have key responsibilities, which include:
- providing expert advice and support on practice excellence initiatives
- identifying opportunities to innovate and improve how we work
- supporting and contributing to training, resources, and development programs
- identifying and applying agreed compentency frameworks, through the provision of regular feedback
- maintaining accurate records in accordance with legislative requirements
- liaising with the Court's Law Reform and Policy Unit to ensure that practice excellence training materials and manuals are updated and maintained
- providing support and assistance to Associates in completing challenging tasks
There are multiple positions available; fixed term for six months
About You
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the Victorian legal system, particularly the Acts, Rules, and Regulations applicable to the County Court jurisdiction. Experience as an Associate to a Judicial Officer will be highly regarded.
You will be able to demonstrate:
- strong policy design and development skills, with proven ability to formulate and communicate policies and recommendations
- proven critical thinking and problem solving abilities, showcasing your ability to resolve issues through a deep understanding of relevant guidelines
- superior interpersonal skills with a variety of stakeholders
- strong collaboration and a desire to develop others through active support and practical assistance
- a strong commitment to service excellence practices through continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Candidates are required to have a tertiary qualification in law.
Experience and/or qualifications as a workplace trainer will be highly regarded.
