About the Role:
The Building & Plumbing Commission is seeking skilled and passionate Legal Advisor professionals to join its Dispute Resolution Division. We currently have an ongoing opportunity available, located in Melbourne's CBD with hybrid work arrangements.
Reporting to the Principal Legal Adviser, the role of Senior Legal Adviser is to provide accurate and practical legal advice to the Chief Dispute Resolution Officer and specialist legal support to the operation of the Dispute Resolution Division of the Building and Plumbing Commission.
This is a dynamic, people-focused role that requires empathy, legal insight, and strong facilitation skills.
What we are looking for
- Demonstrated ability to provide authoritative legal and policy advice on complex statutory and regulatory matters.
- Proven experience in drafting and reviewing legal documents, including dispute resolution orders, governance instruments, and legislative proposals.
- Strong knowledge of Victorian legislation, administrative law principles, privacy, and Freedom of Information requirements.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce accurate, clear, and legally compliant documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills, with the ability to liaise effectively on legislative changes and complex legal issues.
- Ability to work collaboratively and proactively champion statutory functions within a dynamic regulatory environment.

About the BPC
The Building & Plumbing Commission (BPC) is Victoria's new regulator for building and plumbing.
It brings together the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), and the domestic building insurance function of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) into one organisation.
Key functions related to building and plumbing regulation will come together under one roof, including registration, inspection and compliance, practitioner discipline, dispute resolution, and domestic building insurance. These services will now part of the BPC and will be fully integrated over the next 12 months.
