Position Details

 

About the Role: 

The Senior Advisor, Complex Cases is responsible for supporting the BPC in its administration of the licensing and registration scheme for building and plumbing practitioners under the Building Act 1993. With an understanding of organisational governance and statutory decision-making obligations, the primary purpose of this role is to review escalated licensing and registration applications, and use delegated decision-making authority to grant or refuse applications. 

The role also prepares a broad range of detailed correspondences, contributes to development of operational policy and procedures and provides direct guidance to the team and wider business on applications to support efficient and effective decision-making. 

What we are looking for: 

  • Demonstrated experience assessing and managing complex or escalated licensing and registration applications, applying legislation, regulation, and policy frameworks. 
  • Proven ability to exercise delegated statutory decision-making powers and provide clear, concise recommendations on sensitive matters. 
  • Sound understanding of the Building Act 1993 and related regulatory frameworks, with the ability to interpret and apply statutory obligations accurately. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare high-quality reports, briefs, and correspondence, and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Experience contributing to the development and refinement of operational policies, processes, and controls to enhance efficiency and integrity. 
  • A tertiary qualification in public administration, management, business, law or other relevant discipline will be highly regarded.

The Building & Plumbing Commission (BPC) is Victoria's regulator for building and plumbing.  

It supports the growing Victorian community through the developments of harms-based regulation that is proactive and informed by data and intelligence. The BPC regulates for better consumer outcomes and is committed to safety, compliance and buildings that last. 

The BPC's aim is to improve the experience for consumers in the building system by overseeing all aspects of building quality control – regulation, insurance and dispute resolution. The BPC brings key regulatory, dispute resolution, and insurance functions related to the building and plumbing industry together under one roof, streamlining the process for consumers and industry, and enabling the regulator to have oversight of all complaints so they can be handled more effectively and efficiently.
