Position Details
THE ROLE
Working within the high-performing and collaborative Office of the Secretary team, the Senior Adviser provides high quality advice and support to the Secretary on a range of issues. The Senior Adviser operates with a high degree of discretion, autonomy and accountability; is confident working across portfolios and with senior executives; demonstrates policy and organisational acumen; and applies exceptional strategic, conceptual and analytical abilities in their work. The Senior Adviser provides strategic advice to the Director, Office of the Secretary. The Senior Adviser plays a key role in managing the quality of briefings and timely delivery of materials to the Secretary, portfolio ministers and external stakeholders, and works closely with the Deputy Secretary Offices to uplift briefing quality and processes. The Senior Adviser also supports the secretariat function for the department's Board of Management and Executive Directions Board. The position regularly liaises with a wide range of internal stakeholders and operates with a high level of professionalism, initiative and collaboration.
The Senior Adviser operates in a complex and demanding environment, requiring the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team, capacity to exercise sound judgement and attention to detail, liaise effectively with senior executives and build collaborative relationships with key stakeholders.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE
- Provide authoritative and accurate advice to the Director, Office of the Secretary on departmental briefings and other issues and products to ensure the Secretary is appropriately supported in decision-making.
- Contribute to strategic projects led by the Office of the Secretary, working with a high level of accountability and confidentiality.
- Manage and monitor the quality assurance and administrative processes for departmental briefings to ensure high quality, accurate products are provided to the Secretary and Ministers.
