Position Details
THE ROLE
Working in the Child Safety Reform Team within the Children and Families Division, this position will undertake policy projects and provide high quality and timely strategic advice, including legal policy and legislative advice, to their Director and Executive Director on matters relevant to worker screening and child safety.
This will include projects and advice about legislative and policy development in relation to worker screening across all workforces covered by the Worker Screening Act 2020, including measures to achieve national consistency, improving the operation of worker screening schemes, and to connections with the Reportable Conduct Scheme and the Child Safe Standards.
The role will also be the key author as needed in developing budget bids, Cabinet submissions and papers and briefings suitable for informing senior executive and ministerial decision making. It will provide project support and analysis for intergovernmental governance meetings including the Standing Council of Attorney's General.
The position will require excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a strong understanding of policy and budget setting processes, and processes for the making of legislation and regulations in the Victorian context. The role holder will also have the skills and ability to work collaboratively and use initiative to support delivery in a fast-paced and changing policy environment.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE
- Develop and provide advice and analysis on policy and legislative reform relating to worker screening and regulatory child safeguarding.
- Advise on emerging strategy and policy issues in worker screening and regulatory child safeguarding, in collaboration with departmental colleagues.
- Advise on interactions between worker screening and the policy settings and operation of the Reportable Conduct Scheme and the Child Safe Standards.
