About Us
Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.
Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the ‘Courts Group'.
Our people enable the Courts Group to deliver on each jurisdiction's own strategic priorities while also pursuing strategic opportunities that are interconnected and deliver benefits more broadly.
Organisation environment:
The Juries Act 2000 (The Act) makes provision for the role, function and powers of the Juries Commissioner and as many Deputy Juries Commissioners as are required. The purpose of the Act is to provide for the operation and administration of a system of trial by jury that equitably spreads the obligation of jury service amongst the community; makes juries more representative of the community; and permits the timely adoption of new technologies for the selection of persons for jury service.
Juries Victoria (JV) is made up of the Juries Commissioner and approximately 20 staff in Melbourne and across regional Victoria. While it sits administratively within the Supreme Court of Victoria (SCV), JV operates from the County Court of Victoria (CCV) building. For more information, please visit juriesvictoria.vic.gov.au
Role purpose:
JV's Operations Manager is responsible for the seamless operation of Victoria's jury system across 13 Jury Districts, ensuring a sufficient number of Victorian citizens, broadly representative of the community, are available to serve as jurors on Supreme and County Court trials.
About the role:
Working closely with the Juries Commissioner and Deputy Juries Commissioner, the Operations Manager contributes to the development and implementation of internal policy and procedures. The Operations Manager forecasts and plans for juror recruitment activity that reflects statewide trial listings, providing leadership to motivate and develop staff and ensure capability and capacity requirements are met.
The Operations Manager builds and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders required for effective jury management, including judges and their staff, Supreme and County Court registry staff, Juries Victoria staff and regional Magistrates' Court registrars.
The Operations Manager requires a flexible, solutions-focused mindset and the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
You will bring:
- Sound understanding of the operations of the Victorian higher jurisdiction courts and jury system is highly desirable
- Experience in working proactively and confidently with registries and judges in a dynamic operational environment
- Tertiary qualification in public sector management or a related field is welcomed
