About this role
About the Role:
The Specialist Inspector, Plumbing is part of a team of experienced inspectors who are focused on complex and/or specialised inspections including of class 2 buildings and/or priority cases. This team plays a critical role in managing complex and high‑risk matters where strong technical expertise and sound regulatory judgment, including the use of compliance tools are essential.
In this role, you'll focus on complex and specialised inspections, including Class 2 apartment buildings and priority cases, helping to strengthen compliance outcomes and build confidence in the building and plumbing regulatory framework. You'll also contribute to the Building and Plumbing Commission's response to the Government's 10‑Year Housing Policy Statement, ensuring quality, safety and consumer protection remain front and centre.
Working closely with internal teams, industry stakeholders and government partners, you'll help position the BPC as a trusted regulator, supporting practitioners to deliver compliant, high‑quality work across Victoria.
What we are looking for:
To succeed in this role, you'll bring strong technical expertise, sound judgement, and excellent communication skills, along with:
- Extensive experience in the building and plumbing industry, with advanced knowledge and practical application of the Building Act 1993 and Building and Plumbing Regulations 2018
- Demonstrated experience conducting regulatory site inspections and audits, including Class 2 apartment buildings
- Registration, or eligibility to gain registration, as a plumber in main classes of plumbing work under Part 12A of the Building Act 1993
- The ability to provide high‑level technical advice and collaborate effectively with internal teams, industry stakeholders, legal counsel and consumers
- Strong written skills, with experience preparing clear technical reports, correspondence and maintaining accurate records in line with governance and compliance requirements

Established in 2025, the BPC is Victoria's new independent regulator for the building and plumbing industries. The BPC brings together the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), and the domestic building insurance function of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) into one organisation.
Key functions related to building and plumbing regulation have come together under one roof, including registration, inspection and compliance, practitioner discipline, dispute resolution, and domestic building insurance.
