ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Senior Risk and Insurance Adviser is responsible for coordinating risk management across Museums Victoria, supporting risk owners, and building risk awareness, engagement and capability throughout the organisation. The role also manages insurance, insurable risk and claims.
This position is accountable for the effective delivery of risk and insurance management services to ensure Museums Victoria can proactively identify, manage and monitor risks, with a strong focus on continuous systems improvement.
Some of the key duties include:
- Leading the regular review and implementation of the strategic risk management policy, framework and templates to Museums Victoria actively manages its risk position in a consistent manner.
- Advising on risk assessments and working closely with risk owners and subject matter experts to to ensure that all risks are identified and monitored, controls are identified and assessed, and risk treatments are developed, tracked and implemented.
- Managing the strategic risk register and supporting the development and review of operational risk registers.
- Contributing to a positive risk culture by integrating risk management into business planning, operations and project management, including delivering training and guidance.
- Preparing risk reporting for the Executive, Audit and Risk Committee and Board.
- Providing insights on organisational risks through analysis, stakeholder engagement, monitoring external factors and exploring future risk scenarios.
- Liaising with the Victorian Management Insurance Authority (VMIA) on site risk reviews, insurance renewals, insurable risk and claims management.
The successful applicant will have:
- A strong understanding of risk management requirements in a public sector context, including the Victorian Government Risk Management Framework and ISO 31000:2018 Risk Management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of insurance, insurable risk and claims management, and organisational resilience.
- Proven ability to lead enterprise-level risk management and support the effective identification and treatment of risks, and reporting.
- Experience developing and implementing risk management frameworks, tools and templates, and embedding risk management practices and culture across an organisation.
- Experience facilitating and documenting risk assessments, including identifying critical controls and assessing their effectiveness.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to facilitate discussions, prioritise work, meet deadlines and deliver outcomes.
OTHER INFORMATION
This is a part-time (0.6 - 0.8 FTE) fixed-term position for 12 months. The salary on offer is VPS5.1, $113,022 increasing to $116,413 from 1 May 2026 per annum (pro rata), plus 12% superannuation.
The successful applicant is required to undergo a National Police Records Check and Working with Children Check and be assessed as suitable (new employees are required to meet this cost).
