About the position:
The primary responsibilities of this position are the implementation of integrated pest management (IPM) programs across a large and diverse museum building portfolio and preventive conservation projects and treatments of Museums Victoria's collections. This position sits in the Collection Preservation team.
The successful applicant will join a friendly, multi-disciplinary team engaged in preventive and remedial conservation of the Museum's collections. Based at Melbourne Museum, you will also be required to work across other Museum campuses in inner-urban Melbourne.
Some of the key duties include:
- Initiating, developing, managing and participating in Integrated Pest Management policies, procedures and strategies.
- Advocating for and promoting Integrated Pest Management principles across Museums Victoria.
- Providing authoritative, expert and strategic advice to internal and external stakeholders on Integrated Pest Management issues.
- Developing and executing remedial conservation and collection preservation programs, projects, research and tasks related to the Museum's collections.
- Contributing to the development, review and implementation of relevant policies, procedures, conservation strategies and work standards.
- Communicating and demonstrating scientific and conservation-specific information, concepts and practices to staff and other stakeholders to contribute to the development of knowledge and skills of others involved with cultural heritage collections.
- Contributing to the development and maintenance of collaborative alliances with experts in the fields of remedial conservation, preservation and risk management for cultural heritage collections.
The successful applicant will have:
- Specialist training and experience in developing, implementing and managing Integrated Pest Management policies, standards and procedures in multi-disciplinary collections.
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in developing and implementing preventive conservation programs and projects related to multi-disciplinary collections.
- Specialist training and experience in remedial conservation within multi-disciplinary collections, including complex treatments and knowledge of national and international frameworks, ethics and issues relevant to such collections.
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in project management.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams and collaborate with key stakeholders on complex projects in a multi-discipline cultural organisation under limited supervision.
- Highly developed verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to undergo a National Police Records Check as a condition of employment.
OTHER INFORMATION
This is a Full-time, Fixed-term until 8 June 2027. The salary on offer is a VPS 3.2 (base of grade $89,292 per annum plus 12% superannuation.
