About the role
An exciting opportunity exists for a Psychiatric Registrar to join South West Healthcare's Older Adult Mental Health Service.
This role offers a rewarding clinical experience working with older adults presenting with a broad range of mental health conditions, including mood disorders, cognitive impairment, neuropsychiatric conditions, and complex comorbidities. You will work within a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, recovery-oriented and person-centred care across community and inpatient settings.
The position is ideal for trainees with an interest in Older Adult Psychiatry, providing strong exposure to assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental illness in later life.
About the service
South West Healthcare's Older Adult Mental Health Service provides specialised care for older people experiencing mental health concerns, including:
- Community-based assessment and treatment
- Inpatient and sub-acute care
- Management of dementia and behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD)
- Consultation and liaison with medical, aged care, and community services
- Support for carers and families
Our service is recognised for its integrated, multidisciplinary and patient-centred approach, working closely with consumers and carers to support recovery and wellbeing
What you bring
As a Psychiatric Registrar, you will demonstrate:
- A patient-centred and collaborative approach to care
- Experience in mental health assessment and management
- Commitment to recovery-oriented practice
- Enrolment in or eligibility for the RANZCP training program
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
You will be supported by experienced Consultant Psychiatrists through structured supervision and mentoring.
