About the Team
We protect the financial and legal interests of thousands of Victorians who are unable to manage their own affairs because of mental illness, injury or disability. Meeting the needs of these clients is the single focus of our Financial Administration team.
At State Trustees, we're dedicated to supporting Victorians who, due to disability, mental illness, injury, or other circumstances, are unable to manage their financial and legal affairs independently. Our work has a direct impact on protecting rights, preserving assets, and enhancing the wellbeing of some of the state's most vulnerable people.
We are seeking a Legal Support Consultant to join our Financial Administration team. This is an opportunity to combine your legal, financial, and stakeholder management expertise in a purpose-driven environment where every decision you make can positively change a person's life.
About the role
As a Senior Consultant, Legal Support, you will manage a portfolio of clients who no longer have capacity to manage their own affairs and require support with complex, sensitive, or legal matters. You will play a critical role in protecting clients' financial interests and legal rights while navigating challenging circumstances with professionalism, empathy, and sound judgement.
You will manage and resolve matters including:
- Financial elder abuse investigations
- Crime compensation claims
- TAC and TFM claims
- Family law matters
- Property disputes
- Complex financial and business affairs
- VCAT applications and hearings
- Asset protection and recovery matters
Skills and Experience
- Extensive experience in the legal industry or disability sector.
- Ability to prepare commercial standard correspondence, reports and recommendations
- Understanding and experience dealing with clients with a disability
- Passionate about making a difference to the lives of Victoria's most vulnerable people
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and professional communication skills
- Experience in mentoring others
- Competent use of Microsoft Office and business systems
- Intermediate financial analysis skills
