Policy Officer - Cabinet Briefings and Strategy
I am pleased to invite expressions of interest to backfill a VPS4 Policy Officer - Cabinet Briefings and Strategy role within the Ministerial and Cabinet Services Branch for 4 months, from Thursday 1 October 2026 to Friday 29 January 2027 inclusive.
As part of DEECA's Cabinet Briefings and Strategy team, you will engage and advise on Cabinet proposals and related policy issues, and support better Cabinet outcomes through improved guidance, training, systems and processes. You will also contribute to the team's important role in preparing for the upcoming Caretaker Period and new term of government.
Key accountabilities for the position include:
- Prepare high-quality ministerial and departmental briefs on Cabinet submissions and related matters, and speaking notes for DEECA Ministers and senior executives as required.
- Engage across the department to provide strategic and timely responses to current and emerging Cabinet priorities, ensuring that responses are outcome-focused and present an integrated ‘One DEECA' view.
- Lead business critical policy, coordination and support functions, including for relevant DEECA Senior Executive Committees, and deliver high quality and timely outputs.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in DEECA's Cabinet processes and outputs through advice, guidance, training, reporting and system enhancements.
- Review documents and ensure material is of a high quality and meets internal expectations and DPC compliance requirements.
- Work flexibly across the team and branch, and in collaboration with your manager, to ensure delivery of the highest priorities.
- To practice cultural safety by creating environments, relationships and systems free from racism and discrimination so that people can feel safe, valued and able to participate.
- Provide support within the Division to assist with high-impact projects or areas requiring additional support.
