About us 

The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.  

About the role 

We are seeking a Senior Software Developer to join the Maintenance and Support engineering team within DGS. This role is responsible for maintaining and enhancing existing DGS products and services. As a key member of our software delivery squads, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software that aligns with DGS standards  . The ideal candidate is proactive, adaptable, and brings a strong foundation in software engineering principles, experience working in Agile environments, and a proven track record in a similar development role.

Key Accountabilities

  • Demonstrated experience in a Lead/Senior developer position
  • Work collaboratively or individually in a team with Delivery Lead, Engineers, Product Owner and other business stakeholders and teams to debug, analyse, estimate, and build integration solutions
  • Provide knowledgeable technical support during production issues and incidents, including as part of a 24/7 on-call roster 
  • Develop, test, and deploy scalable and reliable backend integration solutions using a diverse tech stack – including Node.js and MuleSoft – where experience with these technologies is beneficial/preferred, but not mandatory.

About you 

To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate: 

  • Proven experience implementing integrated solutions for enterprise-level systems in a senior or lead technical role.
  • Self-motivated and customer-focused, driven to resolve issues, maintain seamless operations, and continuously improve digital experiences.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong experience with code versioning tools like Git and CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions and DevOps, with a particular emphasis on AWS being highly desirable.
  • A good understanding of alerting and monitoring real world applications i.e. utilising tools such as Datadog, CloudWatch

Mandatory requirements

  • Education and professional technical background commensurate with the seniority of the position.
  • Understanding of the SDLC, agile delivery practices, and ITIL.
