The Level Crossing Removal Authority (LXRA) is responsible for the removal of 50 of the most dangerous and congested level crossings on the Melbourne metropolitan rail network which will enable more train services to operate and reduce traffic congestion. The LXRA is also responsible for the delivery of the Mernda Rail Extension. LXRA is an Administrative Office established in relation to the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources. The Head of the Administrative Office is the Coordinator-General.

Position Details

PROJECT  ENGINEER

The Project Engineer will support the management of the operational deliverable activities of the project which includes but not limited to project design and development, procurement, delivery and commissioning. 

Reporting to the Project Manager this role will:

  • Provide assistance and technical support and advice in the review of project briefs, guidelines specifications and contract documentation
  • Assist Project Managers in carrying out engineering activities such as project scoping of works, performing estimates, and similar technical activities.
  • Under direction, manage contractors and monitor financial and physical progress.
  • Under direction, conduct surveillance activities, documenting any irregularities, and work towards resolution of any identified issues.
  • Assist in the development of design solutions and coordination with design consultants, as required.

You will have demonstrated experience in railway or road, design and construction areas, and be able to work through technical issues involving undertaking invesitgations and providing a set of recommendations in resolving the issues at hand.  Key to your success will be your ability to work independently, strong communication skills (written and verbal) and the confidence to liaise with a diverse range of people on complex issues.  A tertiary qualification in Engineering or related field is required.
