Position Details

Senior Rail Service Planner

The Network Planning division determines what the network needs, and plans and designs the future network to deliver on the transport strategy, system design and service planning.

This role is in the Public Transport Planning area and is responsible for developing an evidence base to inform the preparation of rail operating service plans and strategies that align with Government policy and major transport infrastructure commitments.

Core activities of this role include analysis, research, discussion and consultation to ensure that public transport issues are fully understood and managed when planning the rail network in a customer focussed manner. This requires both a detail focus and work with stakeholders to analyse service requirements, use of computer software to model rail operations, preparation of technical papers, development of concept timetable plans and other associated requirements.

You will be required to analyse existing and proposed train service provision including assessment of customer demand, capacity requirements, travel times, modal coordination. You will also develop service proposals and infrastructure requirements, with a strong focus on customer outcomes and network integration.

To be successful in this role you will have knowledge of the existing transport network and a sound understanding of public transport planning principles and operational planning.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Records Check prior to commencing employment with the Department.
