About the Opportunity

The Summer Internship Program aims to build the next generation of diverse and inclusive talent ready for careers in transport by offering paid internships to university students in their final years of study.

The NELP 2022/23 Summer internship program will commence in December 2022. This is a paid internship where current university students can gain practical experience within your chosen discipline.

The annual salary for the Internship Program is at $55,439 plus superannuation, pro rata. Interns will commence in a full time capacity and reduce their working hours when university commences in 2023.

The internship is a 6-month program, where you'll be empowered to develop your skills using a growth mindset, support project teams to deliver key project milestones, gain hands-on experience with industry leaders, while building your network within NELP and across the industry.

About You

This year, we will be prioritising students who identify with one or more of the following marginalised, disadvantaged and under-represented groups:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders
  • Living with a Disability *
  • Low socio-economic background *
  • Refugee / Asylum seekers *

If you are applying as a member of an under-represented group, please provide a statement within your Cover Letter to outline as part of your application.

NELP are seeking interns who are currently studying within the discipline People & Culture, with a degree in:

You'll build practical capabilities in managing end-to-end recruitment, workplace relations, payroll advisory, workforce planning, HR projects (including getting involved in employment programs including the Graduate, Industry Based Learning (IBL), Vocation and Traineeship Programs) and business partnering. You'll also learn about how state and federal legislation, enterprise agreements and HR policies work to form the basis of HR advice and effective people management practices.

Our commitment to creating a workplace that inspires you, engages you and grows you is strong – we want you to be a powerful contributor to this wonderfully diverse and dynamic organisation. Our offering continues to grow but here is what we already have in store for you:

  • You'll gain hands on experience while you're studying, working on a once in a life time transport project
  • You'll have access to industry experts who will guide and mentor you
  • If you are eligible, there is an opportunity to gain entry in the 2024 NELP Graduate Program
  • Leave loading - 17.5% payment on top of your base salary when you take annual leave
