Position Details
THE ROLE
Reporting to the Secretary, Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, the Deputy Secretary will partner with Deputy Secretaries and senior leadership across the Department to lead and realise the department's vision for whole of system reform. The role will drive the strategic priorities of the Department with a particular focus on the key enablers to deliver client centred and high-quality care including workforce, partnerships, integrated service delivery reform across portfolios, investment strategy, regulatory policy, and strategic performance and data analytics.
The Deputy Secretary will support the department's program areas, the Executive Board, and Minsters in delivering agreed priorities. The Deputy Secretary will play a critical role in better connecting work within the department and with other departments in whole of system strategy and reform setting, underpinned by system wide performance metrics.
The Deputy Secretary will lead influential specialist teams with a focus on department wide and cross-cutting priorities: system strategy and performance, workforce reform, analytics and evidence and regulation. The Deputy will also lead on whole of government reform opportunities to improve integrated service delivery.
The role will have impact beyond the specific functional units within its scope, supporting the Secretary and other leaders to magnify the strategic impact of the Department. The Deputy Secretary will work in strong and effective partnerships with other Deputy Secretaries, particularly collaborating with policy and program areas who will continue to have strong policy and service design leadership for respective program areas.
The Deputy Secretary will lead a team of executives and play a critical role across the department, working to ensure that the reform agenda and strategic priorities of the department are shared, connected and supported.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE
- Lead whole of system reform for the department in partnership with sector and government colleagues– able to articulate future direction of the system, underpinned by system-wide performance metrics
- Lead whole of department investment strategy, developing strong and trusted relationships with central agencies
- Establish and lead the workforce reform function leveraging partnerships across government, sector, universities/TAFEs and other strategic partners to lead whole of community service workforce strategy with a focus on supply/demand; data modelling and planning and best practice attraction and retention.
