Position Details
  • Based at the Melbourne Museum

  • $40,771 paid pro rata + 9% Superannuation

  • Full time; Fixed term until 31 March 2013

Australia’s largest public museum organisation is seeking a Purchasing Finance Officer to provide a range of finance and administrative services primarily for procurement and fixed assets, to internal and external customers, ensuring a high quality customer service.


Museum Victoria cares for the State scientific and cultural collections, providing visitor access, activities and events at four distinct venues:  Melbourne Museum (including the IMAX Theatre), Immigration Museum, Scienceworks, and the World Heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building. The position is accountable for the timely, efficient and accurate processing of procurement requirements, and assisting with the processing of financial accounts and asset transactions in line with established compliance requirements.

Notable skill sets required for this position include:

  • A good knowledge of procurement strategies and processes and the ability to effectively communicate procedures and requirements to non-finance staff.

  • Have experience working with Microsoft Great Plains or similar accounting package software.

  • Be proficient with MS Excel and an ability to navigate other Windows applications to ensure data integrity and to quickly learn new skills.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team, as well as having the initiative to work independently in solving problems and remaining calm under pressure.
