Victoria Legal Aid – what we do:
We help people with their legal problems by providing information, advice and education with a focus on the prevention and early resolution of legal problems. We also provide legal representation to those who need it most. We employ over 800 staff in 14 offices across Victoria. Our vision is for a fair and just society where rights and responsibilities are upheld.

The role:
The Deputy Managing Lawyer (DML) will work alongside the current DML to provide day to day operational management of staff in the Child Protection team. The position holder will act as a senior advocate on complex matters, and provide effective supervision and coaching to lawyers within the team. The DML will also support the Program Manager to develop and implement strategies and policies to improve client services.

  • Salary commensurate with experience, range: $82,914 - $103,640 plus salary packaging and superannuation

About you:
You will be an experienced lawyer who is cool, calm and collected. You will have a good understanding of legal services in the community sector, ideally in the child protection jurisdiction, although child protection specific experience is not required as training can be provided. You will be comfortable in a leadership role and have a keen interest in mentoring and staff development.
