  • Full time maximum term position up to 12 months
  • Salary based on experience, range: $95,993 - $119,989 plus super

About the role:
In this newly established role, we are looking for a Senior Lawyer to work closely with our Migration team to assist with the development and implementation of a new service that will inform young people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne about the risks of Visa cancellation and the importance of Citizenship through legal assistance and community education.
This presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced migration lawyer looking to utilise their leadership and mentoring skills whilst contributing to the new service focused on providing education and legal assistance.

About you:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Strong knowledge and experience in civil law and relevant court procedures with extensive knowledge of the Migration Act with a focus of visa cancellation and citizenship.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering community legal education and training, preferably to people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and an ability to engage with different groups including young people.
  • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to plan and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines. You will have demonstrated experience in the monitoring and evaluation of projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to influence and negotiate with people across all levels, including the ability to positively engage with clients who are socially, culturally, and economically disadvantaged.
  • We also value candidates' lived experience of issues that many of our clients face and people with an understanding of the challenges impacting on people who are facing visa cancellation or are applying for citizenship.
