About the role:
Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) are looking for a lawyer to join the Internal Legal Services (ILS) team as a Senior Policy and Projects Officer. ILS is responsible for statutory compliance, our complaints process, and providing practical legal advice and support to VLA staff and managers in the areas of professional conduct and legal practice.

You will be responsible for reviewing and developing specific internal policies, developing and implementing staff education initiatives, and undertaking project work in relation to VLA's professional and compliance obligations. You will also provide legal services to VLA staff on matters that can at times be complex and sensitive.

About you:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to plan and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines. You will have demonstrated experience in policy development and implementation that deliver on intended results, along with your ability to monitor and evaluate projects.
  • Excellent positive communication, creative problem solving and time management skills, with the ability to influence others while working closely with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience delivering legal education and training, along with the ability to proactively mentor and train staff in their development of knowledge and skills in relevant law, polices and processes.
  • A current Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner
