About the role:
Reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with our Criminal Law Leadership team, you will lead the development, planning and preparation of various law reform, policy and advocacy strategies.
This work will include undertaking collaborative planning with criminal law program areas and other VLA directorates, engaging with external stakeholders, collation of consumer stories and research and analysis of current issues impacting the criminal justice system.
As well as leading the development and preparation of law reform, you will work to raise awareness of Criminal Law advocacy and law reform priorities and build strong collaborative relationships between the policy team and practising staff.
This position is only open to Australian First Nations people (mandatory).
You have demonstrated experience in the law and court procedures relevant to criminal law practice, along with excellent organisational skills and the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders. You have a strong understanding of the issues affecting Australian First Nations Peoples and bring this perspective to your work.
Crucial to your success will be your demonstrated skills in research and analysis, and ability to lead policy submissions on legislation, law reform initiatives and strategic advocacy activities.
