Role description
The role of the Mental Health Nurse – Custodial Health, involves working within a multidisciplinary team at Tarrengower Women's Prison and incorporates the following activities: Specialist in primary mental health care, including assessment and management of mental health conditions, deliver unsupervised clinical practice, coordination of care, health promotion and teaching, patient advocacy, collaborative patient and unit management, supervision and mentorship/preceptorship, accurate and timely documentation.
Dhelkaya Health is responsible for the provision of primary healthcare to women throughout their prison stay at Tarrengower.
About you
- Demonstrated experience in a nursing role in a multidisciplinary mental health setting
- Highly developed mental health nursing skills and knowledge and ability to support a multidisciplinary team with clinical decision making and complex and high-risk clients
- Current AHPRA registration
- Effective organisational skills, with respect to time management and delegation
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to practice collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team
- Demonstrated evidence of undertaking professional development activities to maintain and enhance nursing expertise
- Willingness to learn new ICT systems
- A commitment to high quality, safe and person-centred patient care
- Experience and/or post graduate qualification working in custodial health, alcohol and other drugs services (desirable)
