ROLE SUMMARY:

This role supports the Emergency Management Planning (EMP) Business Unit to meet the immediate outcomes of its business plan and be a key contributor to enhancing VICSES's ability to lead and provide appropriate public information and warnings.

Reporting to the Manager Emergency Management Planning and working with key stakeholders across all levels of Government, this role is responsible for leading VICSES issued warning products and enhancements. It provides strategic guidance across national and state level working groups relating to public information and warnings and provides subject matter expertise throughout the organisation. Key improvements and projects relate to leading the review of processes, warnings templates and relevant training and development approaches for warnings issuers, staff and volunteers.

This position requires a flexible and solution focused approach with the ability to balance competing demands and to plan for and deliver specific outcomes within clearly defined time and resource constraints. This role also requires the ability to facilitate improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency of processes and to find better ways of doing things to lead this area towards achievement of VICSES goals.

Whilst this is a non-operational position, the role may be required to provide support to operational staff during operations and duty officer rosters (i.e. Public Information Officer (PIO), Information and Warnings Officer (IWO) at the State Control Centre, Regional Control Centres and Incident Control Centres).

WHO WE ARE:

Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) is a volunteer-based emergency service. Our highly skilled and equipped Volunteers are trained comprehensively in a wide range of emergency environments. To minimise the impact of emergencies when they occur and strengthen the community's capacity to recover swiftly and safely, VICSES focuses on working with communities and partners in building resilience to achieve more aware, informed and prepared communities.  We support them to understand their risk and the relevance of taking action before, during and after emergency events.

As the largest road rescue network in Australia we have specialist teams that provide a 24/7 response to road accident and trauma incidents. We assist Victoria Police in search and rescue operations, and play an important role in supporting the Country Fire Authority (CFA), Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV), Parks Victoria and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) during major bushfire and emergency incidents.
