  • Salary $138,631 - $185,518 plus 12% superannuation – VPS Grade 6

The opportunity  
The Manager – Legislation and Government Relations manages a small team responsible for delivering the SRO's legislative program, co-ordinates responses to Ministerial correspondence and plays a key role in managing the State Revenue Office's relationship with the Government. This includes supporting the development and passage of legislation, preparing cabinet submissions, and contributing to the development of policy proposals.

Reporting to the Director, Policy and Legislation, you will be responsible for:

  • Delivering the legislative program for the State Revenue Office.
  • Providing high level authoritative advice to internal and external stakeholders on Government, parliamentary and legislative processes.
  • Co-ordinating and preparing Ministerial Briefs and Cabinet Submissions to the Treasury, the Treasurer and the Cabinet.
  • Participating in significant SRO corporate projects.

Who we are looking for
To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and mentor team members, and proven capacity to play a leading role in legislative, management, cultural and work practice reform.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing policy proposals and primary and subordinate legislation, preferably in a taxation or regulatory environment, including high level conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills, and an understanding of Government, parliamentary and legislative processes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the interpretation and application of legislation in a complex, legal, commercial, political environment.
  • Demonstrated high level communication (interpersonal, verbal and written) skills to consult with stakeholders, negotiate outcomes, prepare Ministerial Briefs, Cabinet Submissions, Drafting Instructions, and Ministerial Correspondence, and demonstrated commitment to the highest standards of customer service.
  • The ability to contribute to corporate and strategic objectives through participation in corporate projects and governance forums.
