About this role
- Join Youth Justice and lead the review of the Operational Safety Training (OST) package used across the Youth Justice precincts.
- Ensure the risks of occupational violence are addressed and mitigated.
- Work with Youth Justice leadership providing recommendation and advice to enhance the current OST package.
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (Youth Justice) is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focusing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime.
The Youth Justice Custodial Precincts in Victoria are managed by the department. Parkville Youth Justice Precinct located in the inner northern Melbourne suburb of Parkville. The Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct located in the western suburbs of Melbourne.
The opportunity
- Fixed term, part-time position working across the Parkville and Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precincts.
- VPS6 role: $134,593 - $180,115 per year plus super.
The Senior Manager, Operational Safety Training Review is responsible for ensuring risks of occupational violence are addressed and mitigated through training, development and ongoing support for all staff. The position is responsible for the implementation of evidence-based policies, procedures and frameworks including the Occupational Safety Training package.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Safety Training Framework and the legislative base for use of force under the Children, Youth and Families Act (2005).
- Experience in custodial operations and the risks to safety for staff and young people in custody.
- Experience assessing practice against standards and legislation, including understanding of the Children, Youth and Families Act (2005) and complex Youth Justice and welfare issues.
You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
