About the Business Unit:
The Office of the Public Advocate (OPA) is an independent statutory agency that aims to protect the rights and enhance the position of people with disabilities in Victoria. OPA manages key programs to support its mission; guardianship and individual advocacy, provision of community advice, communications and community education, systemic advocacy and volunteer programs.
The Safeguarding, Inclusion and Volunteer Programs area of OPA encompasses three sub programs: Community Visitors, Independent Third Person and Volunteer Coordination. The Community Visitors Program focuses on protecting the human rights of people in care via regular visits by volunteers covering three streams – disability, mental health and residential services.
The Community Visitors Program comprises VPS staff and more than 450 volunteers. Volunteers have powers to inspect inpatient psychiatric facilities, supported residential services and residential facilities for people with a disability throughout metropolitan, regional and rural Victoria.
About the Role:
This position will be responsible for providing professional leadership, supervision and support to a small team of Community Visitors Program staff, including Community Visitors Program Coordinators.
Some of your duties will include:
Provide professional leadership, supervision and support to Community Visitors Program staff
- Providing line management to Community Visitors Program staff, including implementing the performance appraisal process
- Ensuring Community Visitors Program Standard Operating Procedures are kept up-to-date and address new and emerging issues, including in relation to information technology developments
- Identifying, developing and implementing new practices to ensure that the safeguarding role played by the Community Visitors Program remains relevant in a changing social services sector.

About You:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Thorough knowledge of the mental health, disability (including NDIS), aged care and supported residential services systemsVolunteer management
- Extensive knowledge and experience of the issues related to working with volunteers and a thorough understanding of the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement
Qualifications/Requirements:
- A relevant appropriate tertiary qualification in social science or a related discipline is desirable as is relevant experience.
