About this role
This technical position provides essential support to the National Lentil and Field Pea Breeding Programs, which aim to deliver high-yielding, profitable pulse varieties for the Australian grains industry. Co-invested by Agriculture Victoria Research (AVR) and the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), these programs conduct extensive field trials across six sites in Victoria. Based at the Horsham Smart Farm, the role contributes to all aspects of field operations under the guidance of the Field Operations Manager, including site selection, trial establishment and maintenance, data collection, and harvest. The position also assists with glasshouse operations during peak periods, such as setting up pot experiments and harvest activities. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and be expected to manage a diverse range of tasks with a high level of organisation, initiative, and problem-solving ability. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role involves interaction with scientists, technical staff, and students from within and outside the organisation. A sound understanding of plant and crop production, combined with a passion for agriculture and research, will enable the successful candidate to contribute meaningfully to the delivery of world-class innovation in pulse breeding.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- Current driver license (mandatory).
- Knowledge and understanding of dryland cropping systems (desirable).
- Chemical User Certificate accreditation or equivalent (desirable).
- A forklift licence (desirable).
- Certificate III in Agriculture or relevant field experience (desirable)
There are twos fixed term positions available for a period of 12 Months. The work location for this position is Horsham.
