The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Industry Supervisor to provide a critical role within the Loddon Prison Precinct.
About the Business Unit
Department of Justice & Regulation comprises of eight regions, through which compliance, enforcement and regulatory services are provided to the Victorian community.
The Loddon Mallee Region provides services at Justice Service Centres in Bendigo, Swan Hill, Echuca, Mildura and at various outreach locations across the region. Loddon Mallee Region also has three prisons, two within the Loddon Prison Precinct which includes a medium risk facility (Loddon) and a restricted minimum facility (Middleton). The third, Tarrengower Prison, located at Maldon is a minimum risk women's facility.
About the Role
Prison Industry Supervisors are team leaders in the prison environment. The roles require leadership, maturity, sound judgement and confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor, motivate or council staff and prisoners when required. With highly developed communication and negotiation skills, the prison industry supervisor leads and manages industry staff to achieve program and service outcomes in a multidisciplinary team and rehabilitative environment.
This multifaceted role encompasses human resource management, coaching and developing staff and prisoners, OH&S requirements, E.E.O. legislation responsibilities, training requirements and budget & procurement monitoring.
Some of your duties will include:
- Supervising the operational aspects of Loddon Industries, to achieve commercial production whilst maintaining professional relationships with suppliers, maintaining control of stock, materials, and financial records and providing an industry model of Trade training and assessing environment with the prisoners & staff.
- Leading and managing staff in the Loddon Industries to ensure the safety and security of prisoners, staff and any visitors. This includes appropriate levels of surveillance and interaction within the facility, and monitoring staff and prisoners for compliance with security and occupational health and safety procedures (OH& S) & Procurement.
- Train, supervise and support staff in all aspects of prison industry operations including prisoner training and assessment, case management, program and service knowledge and involvement, maintenance of professional boundaries and contribution to prison and prison industry security management procedures.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Excellent Computer Skills in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel & Access).
- Experience in vocational training environment.
- Good knowledge of OH&S requirements, relevant to manufacturing industries.
- Knowledge and experience of manufacturing, warehouse, and logistics operations.
Qualifications/requirements
- Qualifications and or experience in a Trade area related to the metal or manufacturing industry, e.g. (Sheet Metal Fabricator, Boiler Maker, Fitter & Turner, Powder Coating, Builder, Plumber, Electrician, Printer) (Desirable)
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and or experience in providing training within a commercial production environment. (Desirable)
- Completed or prepared to complete Pre-service Prison Officer Training. (Mandatory).
