About the Business Unit:
HM Prison Barwon is a maximum-security prison located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km from the centre of Geelong and about 70km from Melbourne, and is part of the Barwon South West Regional structure. It is Victoria's major maximum-security prison for sentenced male prisoners. The prison officially opened in January 1990 and currently houses up to 416 men in custody, including high security, long term management, protection (including specialist protection), general mainstream (maximum security) and medium security prisoners.
About the Role:
Senior Prison Officers take a lead role within custodial teams, coaching, mentoring, and supporting prison officers.
Some of your duties will include:
- Contributing to creating and sustaining a positive and healthy workforce culture built on solid values, professional excellence, and teamwork, including being accountable for your continued professional development
- Leading by example and demonstrating in your day-to-day interactions each of the DJCS values and behaviours and be accountable for your actions
- Maintaining a healthy and safe workplace by acting immediately upon the receipt of any bullying, discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, or inappropriate behaviour complaint, report, or observation.

About You:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in a correctional environment
- Commitment to working with staff, prisoners, and other service providers in the delivery of an integrated, whole of Justice approach to reducing re-offending
- Experience and skill in areas relevant to Correctional Delivery or statutory environment, management of staff and offender case management.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- A full and current Victorian driver's licence
- Completion of the Prison Officer Pre-service Training or a willingness to undertake and complete the provided Prison Officer Pre-Service Training is required
- Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Custodial) or similar is desirable
- Certificate IV Training and Assessment is desirable.
