About the role
As the Director, Gas Substitution and Energy Efficiency, you will provide strategic leadership to a high-profile branch comprising the Gas Reform, Gas Substitution Roadmap, Low Emissions Buildings and Scorecard teams. This role offers the opportunity to shape and deliver critical policy including the Gas Substitution Roadmap work program, the role of energy efficiency in buildings and energy demand management.
We are seeking an executive leader with a proven record of delivering outcomes for government in complex and fast-evolving environments. The role requires exceptional policy, delivery and stakeholder engagement skills, as well as the integrity, resilience and drive to influence at the highest levels and build trust a cross government, industry and the community.
About you
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Significant leadership experience (10+ years) in managing and delivering commercial, technical, industry and/or government outcomes within complex, regulated environments.
- A strong track record of working with large, diverse stakeholders, ideally in the energy sector.
- A deep understanding of government processes, governance and industry development.
- Knowledge of Victoria's energy sector and broader energy trends (highly regarded).
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering, finance, commerce, law or a related field, backed by extensive experience in the energy sector.
- Experience in energy policy (desirable but not essential).
About the Group

reliable and affordable.
The Energy Group plays a key role in supporting a significant transformation of the energy sector in Victoria. The
Group's primary responsibility is to support current and future energy projects, programs and reforms. The group
consists of six divisions as follows:
- Innovation, Commercial and Investment
- Electrification, Efficiency and Safety
- Consumer, Community and First Peoples' Energy Transition
- Energy Transition and Strategy
- Offshore Wind Energy Victoria
- Office of the Deputy Secretary
These divisions enable the strategic work required to take place and set the Department up to undertake
major energy transformation.
This is a fixed-term position available for a period of up to 5 years. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
