The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an Industry Supervisor, to provide a critical role within Beechworth Correctional Centre, Corrections Victoria, Custodial Operations.

The Beechworth Correctional Centre is a minimum-security facility with a focus on preparing individuals for release and successful reintegration back into society. It offers various working industries with the men given the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills that will effectively link them to employment on release. When not engaged in work, the men attend rehabilitative programs to address their offending behaviour, engage in education and visits whilst many also engage in recreation and community assistance programs.
About the Role
The Industry Supervisor (Metal Fabrication/Timber Factory/Warehousing/Recycling) is responsible for the supervision and delivery of specific functions within those prison industries. This role includes engagement with Corrections Victoria Prison Industries regarding commercial manufacturing and products and is part of a multi-disciplinary team. The Industry Supervisor is responsible for management and supervision of a team of Industry Officers and training and supervising prisoners in prison commercial industries and service areas. The overall objective is to provide training and employment opportunities to prisoners and to meet production goals and service requirements.
The Industry Supervisor will assist with prisoner employment, Industry Officers deliverables, continuous improvement, safe operating procedures, Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) requirements, and compliance with prison industry procedures.
The Industry Supervisor may be required to work in various areas according to operational requirements. The role requires leadership, maturity, sound judgement, confidence in decision making, developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate prisoners.
The Industry Supervisor reports to the Industry Manager for production processes and requirements.
Facial Hair Policy: All prison officers will be required (subject to a small number of exemptions) to be clean shaven for the purposes of wearing, if required in an emergency, the donning of a breathing apparatus.
Some of your duties will include:
- Effectively use Departmental computer systems for word processing, excel and produce data collection spreadsheets, material ordering and receipting, stock control of raw and finished goods, email, appointment scheduling, internet, and intranet functions, including Oracle R12 or equivalent.
- Provide supervision and leadership to a team of Industry Officers, contributing to continuous Improvement strategies.
- Represent Beechworth Correctional Centre on internal and external stakeholder engagement committees, and with Corrections Victoria Prison Industries, as required.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Relevant industry experience, together with appropriate qualifications or trade experience.
- A demonstrated up-to-date knowledge of modern industry techniques and the maintenance of industry equipment.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with staff, prisoners and service providers in the delivery of an integrated, whole of Justice approach to reducing re-offending.
- Demonstrated experience on LEAN and continuous improvement providing an industry model workplace training environment (desirable).
Qualifications
- Relevant industry experience, together with appropriate qualifications or trade experience relevant to the industry.
- A demonstrated up-to-date knowledge of modern industry techniques and the maintenance of industry equipment.
- Completion of prison officer pre-service training (desirable)
- Completion of Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Adult Custodial) (desirable)
- The successful applicant will be required to complete Prison Officer Pre Service training on commencement if not previously completed
