The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Officer, State Public Information to provide a critical role within Emergency Management Communications.
What will the role do?
- Work in the State Control Centre Public Information team as part of Victoria's operational emergency response,
- Create and publish emergency information and warnings, manage the VicEmergency social media channels and support media requirements.
- Lead and contribute to projects that enhance public information.
- Community-focused communications to help keep Victorians safe before, during and after emergencies.
This role involves working on site at the State Control Centre, on rotations of four days on, four days off. Successful candidates will be required to work changing shift times, including outside normal business hours, nights and weekends, to support the 24/7 nature of emergency response.

- Demonstrated experience in digital and media communications across multiple platforms.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Victoria's emergency management arrangements.
- Previous experience in providing information and/or advice to communities during an emergency (desirable).
- A positive, can-do attitude.
- Proven ability to productively work independently or as part of a team.
- Well-developed strategic thinking, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Developed leadership skills and ability to be accountable and proactive
- Motivation to achieve outcomes and key team priorities.
- Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline (such as - marketing, communications, or a related discipline) are desirable.

About the Business Unit
DJCS Emergency Management
Emergency Management, within the Department of Justice and Community Safety (the Department) works closely with government and agencies across the emergency management portfolio. The group is led by the Deputy Secretary, Emergency Management. Emergency Management includes the department's emergency management accountabilities and statutory entities and offices.
The Business Unit: Emergency Management Communications
EM Communications delivers communication services on behalf of the department's emergency management group to inform and educate the community about emergency management policies, programs and legislation across the emergency management sector to keep the community safe. The EM Communications function is responsible for the coordination of preparedness communications, response, relief and recovery.
