The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Supervisor to provide a critical role within the Corrections Victoria Intelligence Unit.
About the Business Unit
Corrections Victoria Intelligence Service
Corrections Victoria Intelligence Service (CVIS) is the overarching intelligence service for Corrections Victoria (CV) and its stakeholders. The CVIS is comprised of the primary intelligence unit known as the Corrections Victoria Intelligence Unit (CVIU), and localised prison intelligence units located at the public and private prison and Youth Justice facilities in Victoria.
About the Role
Corrections Victoria Intelligence Unit - Supervisor
The position of Supervisor reports to the Operations Manager, CVIU and has a role of providing leadership and direction to a dedicated intelligence team along with providing day to day operational support to the CVIS. The role will be performed on a rostered basis at the various offices of the CVIU.
The Supervisor is expected to lead the collection, collation, recording and analysis of information to provide intelligence services. The Supervisor must work collaboratively with members of CVIU to develop and present intelligence information to CV, authorised persons, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders.
This role will oversee and manage various portfolios including providing ongoing liaison, development and support to Prison Intelligence Units and focusing on High Security Prisoners and offenders in the community, to identify risks and threats to CV and prevent incidents which may impact custodial facilities and community safety.
Note: Whilst CVIU endeavour to offer flexible work arrangements where practicable, this an operational role and will require regular and consistent attendance in the office and prison locations in person.
Some of your duties will include:
- Manage and develop intelligence staff, leading the collection, collation, analysis, and controlled dissemination and reporting of intelligence information to support decision makers in a timely manner.
- Lead and manage staff to provide a state-wide service that supports the safety and security of prisoners, staff, and visitors across the correctional system. This will include attending multiple locations, which may require over-night stays at locations.
- Lead and manage intelligence portfolios and manage stakeholder relationships.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated commitment to working with staff, stakeholders and other providers in the delivery of an integrated intelligence service.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Corrections regulations, especially in relation to barrier control, visits and prison operations.
- Knowledge of the CV system, and key issues impacting the system.
- Knowledge of the Corrections Act 1986, Corrections Regulations 2019, Serious Offenders Act 2018, Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 and the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006.
- Knowledge of relevant Commissioners Requirements and Deputy Commissioners Instructions.
Qualifications/requirements
- Hold an existing Negative Vetting Level 1 Security Clearance, otherwise one must be obtained within 12 months of employment.
- Working knowledge of the Centurion Intelligence System, Ejustice, PIMS, Microsoft Office and the Prisoner Telephone System (highly desirable).
- Successful completion of the Victorian Prison Officer Pre-Service training or completed training in an equivalent jurisdiction.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or thematic knowledge (desirable).
