The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Project Officer- Planning and Development, to provide a critical role within Security Standards Unit, Security and Intelligence Division.
About the Business Unit
The Security and Intelligence Division is responsible for the execution of several key strategic functions within Corrections Victoria, including Security Risk Management, Electronic Monitoring, Correctional Emergency Response, Emergency Management, including exercising plans and contingencies and Intelligence.
The Security Standards Unit (SSU) is responsible for several strategic functions focused on Security Risk Management, Physical Security, Annual Procedural Security Reviews, Schematic Plans, and State-wide Locksmith Services, as well as maintaining a range of policy documents. The SSU is responsible for monitoring the minimum-security requirements for all prisons and secure locations annually and ensuring that the standards are reviewed regularly. The unit also provides assistance, advice, and support to Corrections Victoria in Security, Security Risk Management, Fire Response, and Emerging Technology.
The Planning and Development team produces and maintains all emergency schematic plans, evacuation diagrams, site maps, and infrastructure plans. This includes developing interim plans, updating existing plans, and coordinating aerial photography of the sites for CV, YJCS facilities, and privately operated prisons. The Planning and Development team produces high-quality graphics products and materials for internal and external stakeholders. The team is also required to undertake a range of printing, binding, laminating and other associated tasks.
About the Role
The Project Officer – Planning and Development is required to undertake a range of functions relating to creating and maintaining various plan sets and supporting documentation. This involves ensuring that all documentation is professional-standard, accurate, and in compliance with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements. There needs to be communication and consultation with various stakeholders to deliver these documents as required. Planning team members are often required to undertake a range of jobs, from creative work to taking photos and videos (using a range of photographic equipment, including cameras, GoPros, and drones). Skills in editing photographic works are highly desirable.
The role is primarily based at the State-wide Services Building, Western Plains Corrections Centre, although some state-wide travel and overnight stays may be required. The position may require working in Metropolitan Melbourne, whilst there may also be opportunities to work from home in accordance with Victorian Public Service guidelines.
Some of your duties will include:
- Develop, maintain, and update CV, YJCS and other Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) locations' schematic plans and evacuation diagrams using advanced Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) programs and skills.
- Use a variety of programs to edit and update work (Photoshop, AutoCad, Revit, Adobe Suite, Office Suite)
- Attend CV and YJCS facilities, as well as other DJCS locations, as required.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated practical experience and knowledge of Autodesk (AutoCAD), Autodesk Revit, Microsoft Office suites and/or Photoshop, Adobe programs.
- Ability to operate or learn to operate specialist technical equipment related to scanning rooms and the operation of cameras and photography equipment.
- Capacity to obtain CASA Drone pilots licence- Remote Pilots Licence (RePL) (opportunity provided by CV, unless already licenced)
Qualifications
- Formal qualifications in Building Design/Drafting/Architecture or other relevant industrial/construction design would be desirable.
- CASA Drone Pilots Licence would be desirable
- A current Victorian driver's licence is required.
- A current Working with Children check, or the ability to obtain one is required.
