The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Adviser, Accessible Communication to provide a critical role within Emergency Management Communications.
About the Business Unit
Emergency Management, within the Department of Justice and Community Safety (the Department) works closely with government and agencies across the emergency management portfolio. The group is led by the Deputy Secretary, Emergency Management. Emergency Management includes the department's emergency management accountabilities and statutory entities and offices.
EM Communications delivers communication services on behalf of the department's emergency management group to inform and educate the community about emergency management policies, programs and legislation across the emergency management sector to keep the community safe.
The EM Communications function is responsible for the coordination of preparedness communications, response, relief and recovery.
About the Role
Some of your duties will include:
- Manage and maintain workplace culture and practices that achieve DJCS EM strategic objectives, including:
- contributing to the development and implementation of the annual business plan in line with the statement of direction and strategic priorities
- participating in the PDP process, ensuring goals are meaningful and measurable and compliance with all requirements
- contributing to a safe and healthy working environment for all staff and actively promote a positive and respectful culture across DJCS EM
- maintaining compliance with all governance requirements.
- Develop and improve systems and processes for the State Control Centre (SCC) to engage with priority stakeholder groups including multicultural and disability organisations, community leaders and members, to improve access to emergency information;
- Build the capacity of the emergency management sector about effective and accessible communications;
- Create enduring tools and resources for stakeholders to improve access to emergency information on Victorian government channels.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated experience of developing effective and accessible communications, ideally in partnership with people with priority stakeholder groups and/or suppliers of accessible communications.
