About Us:
The FAS is highly anticipated by victims and stakeholders and represents a major leap forward in the Victorian Government's response to victims of crime. Established under the Victims of Crime (Financial Assistance Scheme) Act 2022 (the Act) the FAS will provide financial assistance through a simple and easy to navigate process that is fair, sensitive, and responsive to victims' needs. It will acknowledge harm done and be trauma informed, inclusive and culturally safe.
About the Role:
This is a prioritised role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
As the Aboriginal Senior Assessor, you will provide specialist assessment knowledge or advice to Victim Recognition Officers who develop trauma informed victim recognition statements acknowledging and affirming the experience of the victim.
Some of your duties will include:
- Leading a team of FAS Assessors, supporting and guiding them to deliver quality decision making in a timely and trauma informed way, including provision of operational support and advice to specialist teams (Aboriginal victims of crime) undertaking direct contact with applicants.
- Analysing, assessing and deciding complex applications and payments as per the Act, and decide upon complex applications that may partially fall outside of established policy, guidelines, and procedures.
- Undertaking reviews of FAS decisions in accordance with the Act.
About You:
To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate:
- Knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal community, both society and culture, and the issues impacting it.
- The ability to communicate sensitively and work effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community.
- Experience in management of small teams with complex decision-making functions, preferably in a government environment.
- Specialist knowledge of risk factors for family violence and the Family Violence Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management Framework.
Qualifications:
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in fields related to community and social services, social policy, social work, law, or public administration is desirable.
