The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an Information Technology Officer to provide a critical role at Western Plains Correctional Centre.
About the Business Unit
Western Plains Correctional Centre is a modern, maximum-security prison focussed on rehabilitation, housing up to 1248 people in custody. Western Plains features multi-purpose infrastructure which is adaptable to the evolving needs of Corrections Victoria and the people in our care. Modern amenities include medical wards, a cultural centre, and vocational training facilities.
Western Plains provides a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to individualised care which motivates, encourages and promotes reintegration into the community. Western Plains operates with three primary service teams: Workforce and Prison Services, Communities, and Safety and Operational Service which collaboratively deliver comprehensive services for people in our care, safety management, and corporate services. About the Role
This role is part of the Workforce and Prison Services (WPS) team, a team dedicated to delivering essential corporate and ancillary services support to prison operational teams and people in our care.
This position sits within the Information Technology Team, which supports the prison and prison staff in areas such as Application Development & Support, Infrastructure Support, IT Asset Management and Communications devices support.
The Information Technology Officer is responsible for supporting staff in use of the technology, hardware and applications support and assist in implementation projects at Western Plains. This role also involves supporting of video conferencing equipment and people in our care is use of in-cell device. This role acts collaboratively within Prison's Operations Team and other internal and external stakeholders.
Given the nature of this position, being a direct contact with people in our care role within the facility, you will be required to work predominantly on-site. You will be required to work flexible hours including weekends and public holidays and attend to urgent work as required. Appropriate remuneration will be applied in accordance with the Victorian Public Service Determination.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have the ability to:
- Experience in the provision of IT support and services and telecommunications and video conferencing equipment.
- Ability to understand, troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues.
- Proven experience in delivering high standard of service to internal customers.
- Ability to prioritise and plan workload to ensure compliance with deadlines and timeframes.
- High level of proficiency using the following suite of applications: Microsoft Windows 10/11, and Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
- Aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies.
Qualifications/requirements
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline such as information technology is highly desirable.
