The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Team Leader to provide a critical role at the Rivergum Residential Treatment Centre.
About the Business Unit
The Serious Offenders Act 2018 sets out a civil, non-punitive scheme that provides for the ongoing supervision or detention of serious sex offenders and serious violent offenders who have completed their prison sentence and pose an unacceptable risk of committing further offences. Correction Victoria's end-to-end management and delivery of services to serious offenders on post-sentence orders occurs through a multi-faceted governance and operating model. The Post Sentence Branch, within the Community Operations and Offender Services Division of Corrections Victoria, provides central oversight and governance of the post sentence scheme and offenders subject to post sentence orders.
Rivergum Residential Treatment Centre accommodates up to 20 male residents, including both serious violent offenders and serious sex offenders. The facility is non-punitive in nature and has a strong focus on therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation. In addition, it is consistent with the overarching intent of the post-sentence scheme by providing secure accommodation and enhancing community protection.
About the Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Team Leader will foster and promote the therapeutic principles of the facility. Working in a dynamic operational environment the Team Leader coordinates the day-to-day operational aspects at Rivergum and provide support to the Operations Manager and General Manager as required. As a Team Leader you will lead a team of Specialist Case Workers and Activities Coordinators responsible for maintaining the good order and security of the facility. Team Leaders play a vital role in supporting Specialist Case Workers to plan and facilitate activities and are expected to contribute and/or participate in activities that promote the delivery of therapeutic and rehabilitation goals of residents. Team Leaders applies pro-social role modelling, sound judgment and demonstrate an ability to motivate teams.
Please note in this role you maybe exposed to sensitive and explicit material relating to serious sex and serious violent offending on a regular basis.
Some of your duties will include:
- Coordinate the day-to-day operational aspects of Rivergum.
- Provide leadership and staff supervision, developing and maintaining a culture that supports treatment, rehabilitation and transition and reflects the Department's values and behaviours.
- Utilise experience and knowledge to provide advice and recommendations on risk assessments, operational compliance & emerging operational issues and trends at Rivergum.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated understanding of Department of Justice & Community Safety Human Resources policies and practices.
- An understanding of the relevant legislation, procedures, processes, and policies within the Criminal Justice System of Victoria.
Qualifications/requirements
- Experience in the criminal justice system of Victoria & or a relevant tertiary qualification, recognised professional qualification or accreditation by a professional association is desirable.
- A current Victorian driver licence is required.
