The Department of Justice and Community Safety, Youth Justice Group is responsible for statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focussing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime. The Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct accommodates young men and delivers a differentiated operating model focused on vocational training, employment opportunities and education, enhancing rehabilitative outcomes.
Infrastructure Projects & Security Unit (IPSU) is responsible for facility maintenance and upkeep of all three custodial precincts, which includes Essential Services and Regulatory Compliance, general maintenance repairs, ground maintenance & grasslands and environment, assets & equipment, Security Systems, Fire Systems, BMS and building systems and delivering minor project works etc.
IPSU is also responsible for ensuring that all buildings are maintained to meet or exceed the building code of Australia (BCA), all relevant Australian Standards and Regulatory codes and all departmental policies and procedures.
The Facilities Coordinator will lead a team who are responsible for the day-to-day building and grounds maintenance, fault rectification, building development and preventative maintenance programs in accordance with relevant building codes, regulations and compliance codes, plant and equipment specifications and OH&S legislation.
The opportunity
- Ongoing, full-time position based at the Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct but working flexibly across other Youth Justice Custodial Precincts (Parkville & Cherry Creek), where needed to respond to operational requirements.
- VPS4 role: $100,894 - $114,476 per year plus super.
- Manage the upkeep of the precinct's facilities and grounds to ensure that they meet the operational and security requirements and comply with relevant legislative and departmental requirements.
- Supervise a team by leading and supporting staff to ensure that buildings and equipment are maintained to a high standard.
- Ensure that all the precincts' facilities, infrastructure, safety measures and grounds meet the operational requirements and comply with relevant legislative and departmental requirements.
- Issue of identification cards and provide assistance for lost, damaged or misplaced cards.
- Assist in the issue of electronic access control cards and provide assistance for lost, damaged or misplaced cards.
- Assist in maintaining the Precincts security keying system including the issue, replacement and ordering of keys, locks and associated equipment and hardware.
- Provide reports to management relating to electronic access control, key issues and identification cards.
- Ensure all on-site employees and sub-contractors understand and comply with safety and security requirements in accordance with OHS legislation, regulations and codes of practice.
- Participate in the implementation of new initiatives on policy and strategic implications of changes and implementation of YJCS initiatives on the precincts' facilities, infrastructure, safety measures and grounds.
- Ensure the effective management of the precincts' facilities, participating in processes of continuous improvement applying solutions to address local issues and problems.
- Develop and present proposals focusing on facility maintenance proposing innovative solutions. Implement systems to ensure project costing, monitoring and reporting.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Experience in building and grounds maintenance, repairs for general building and construction environments
- Well-developed knowledge and understanding of legislation and policies relevant to building and maintenance, OH&S and security services.
- Relevant experience in the coordination of specialist trades/contractors for specific works requested.
- Building and Construction background is desirable.
- Proven strong computer skills and ability to use internal databases and systems.
- A current driver's licence is required due to the need to work across different locations.
You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
