Position Details

STATUS:                        Ongoing, Part Time

HOURS:                         48.0 hours per fortnight (flexible)

DEPARTMENT:               High Dependency Unit

Great opportunities exist for skilled nurses to join our dedicated team of health professionals operating our high Dependency Unit. 

Our Medical/Surgical ward contains 34 beds with 2 bariatric beds and a 4 bed higher acuity area.  The Tambo unit provides care for a large spectrum of medical conditions and post-operative care for gynaecology, urology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, ENT, general surgery patients.  The ward also has facilities for cardiac monitoring via both mobile telemetry units and fixed monitors.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work in a new facility, be involved in the further development of the HDU area and enable you to use your specialist nursing skills to full capacity.  A range of support programs are available (such as our BRHS scholarship program) to assist you progress your qualification and career.  Please call to discuss.


To be successful for this role, applicants will have:

  • Minimum of 3 years post registration experience in a recent  acute medical/surgical setting
  • Accredited in ALS, IV cannulation and management of CVADS experience
  • Demonstrated competence in high acuity acute medical and surgical nursing with a good understanding of and commitment to providing high quality and compassionate patient centred care.
  • Cardiac nursing experience with the capacity to interpret ECG's and manage acute cardiac patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage haemodynamic monitoring, such as arterial and central lines including central venous pressure monitoring.
  • Respiratory support experience including oxygen therapy delivery, non-invasive ventilation and atrial blood gas interpretation and basic invasive ventilation.
  • Critical care (HDU, CCU, ICU or ED, Advanced Med/Surg) experience is highly desirable
  • Post graduate qualifications in a Critical Care or equivalent field e.g. HDU, CCU, ICU, Advanced Med/Surg, ED), or working towards is preferred
