1. Apply online
Go to the Victorian Government careers website and submit:
- your cover letter
- your resume
- responses to the screening questions.
2. Application review
The talent acquisition team will shortlist candidates and will let you know if you will progress to the next stage.3. Phone screening
If you are shortlisted, someone from the talent acquisition team will call you to discuss your suitability for the program.4. Panel interview
Successful candidates are invited to attend a face-to-face behavioural interview before a panel.
When preparing for behavioural interviews, consider they key selection criteria (KSC), which can be found in the position description.
You can use the STAR method to plan examples that demonstrate your skills and experience related to the KSC.
- SITUATION/TASK: Describe the situation you were in or the task you needed to accomplish.
- ACTION: Describe the actions YOU took to address the situation/task.
- RESULT: Discuss how the example ended, what you accomplished, what you learnt and what (if anything) you would do differently in future.

Pre-employment checks are a critical to ensure you are suitable for the role. They can include:
- reference checks
- criminal history checks
- misconduct screenings.
6. Merit pool
If you successfully pass our assessment process, you will be placed in a merit pool.
You will be contacted when a position becomes available at your preferred court location.
7. Offer of employment
Following a verbal offer, you will be emailed a formal letter of offer, outlining the terms of your employment including your commencement date and salary.
After you accept the offer, the hiring manager will contact you to discuss details of your first day.
8. Onboarding and training
As part of your onboarding process, Court Services Victoria will prepare your IT system, payroll and building access.
You will start your 18-month training program with a 6-week formal induction period.
